Last week we reported on the case of San Diego Chargers star outside linebacker Shawne Merriman, who was accused of domestic violence by TV star Tila Tequila (pictured). According to USA Today, Merriman denied the charges, and said Tequila was drunk and that he was only trying to prevent her from leaving and driving.
Tila (aka Tila Nguyen) said that she doesn’t drink at all (“I’m allergic to alcohol”) and hadn’t been drinking that night, and that Merriman threw her to the ground as she tried to leave his home in suburban Poway.
The owner of the bar where they had spent the evening cojnt5radfdcited this, saying that many of his employees said that she had been drinking and was “intoxicated” at the bar. I wrote:
The fact that Tila Tequila is lying about not being drunk that night and lying that she doesn’t drink doesn’t mean that she’s lying about Merriman attacking her, but it certainly weakens her credibility. The fact that she apparently suffered no injuries from allegedly being attacked by an NFL linebacker also weakens her credibility. The San Diego Chargers seem to be taking a moderate, “let’s wait and see the evidence” approach, which seems very appropriate here.
Two new developments in the case–San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis announced Friday afternoon there is insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Merriman committed a crime, saying “This case is now closed.”

Tila Tequila is lashing out at the San Diego D.A.’s office for their decision to not file criminal charges against her ex-boyfriend Shawne Merriman.
TMZ obtained the following statement from Tila’s rep:
“Tila Tequila is the victim of a violent crime. The San Diego District attorney’s decision not to press charges against Shawne Merriman for the battering of Tila Tequila demonstrates an unconscionable negligence in the discharging of their public duties. We strongly feel that justice has not been served in this matter…
Just because the DA has made this reckless decision doesn’t mean that justice will not be served in this case. No one is above the law. Tila Tequila will immediately begin pursuing civil charges against Mr. Merriman and she will have her day in court”…
A horde of paparazzi videographers caught up with Tila Tequila on Thursday and caught the TV personality’s first non-Twitter remarks about her alleged conflict with Chargers LB Shawne Merriman. Asked if she has any bruises from the incident in which Merriman was arrested on Sunday, Tequila pushed her arms together to reveal what appears to be bruising on the upper half of her arms.
The bruises are pictured above. They could have been made by Merriman and, frankly, they could be anything. They could be makeup, bruises from something else, bruises because he grabbed her to prevent her driving drunk, or a multitude of other things. Some women bruise very easily–I’ve no idea if Tequila is one of them.
