Dan Deuel, Executive Committee Member, National Parents Organization of Utah |
In March, National Parents Organization of Utah, successfully spearheaded passage of the state’s first shared parenting legislation! HB35 wasn’t the only success NPO Utah had, but it was the most significant. Headed by Dave Daniels and Janet Robins, NPO Utah is on a roll!
NPO Utah wants to thank Representative V. Lowry Snow for sponsoring HB35 and working so closely with NPO to help ensure its passage. He is an excellent legislator who practiced family law and saw up close many of the challenges parents and their children face when custody is considered. He understands these issues very well, and we appreciate his hard work on the bill. NPO also wants to acknowledge the Utah State Bar’s Family Law section that endorsed HB35.
Under current Utah law, a noncustodial parent is entitled to a minimum schedule of every other weekend (Friday evening to Sunday evening) and one week night per week for three hours. Additionally, noncustodial parents are entitled to one-half of the annual holidays and four weeks during the summer. Read more…

NPO Virginia’s Christian Paasch Posts Op-Ed in Newspapers Across the State! By Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization
|
Christian Paasch, Chair, Executive Committee, National Parents Organization of Virginia |
Paasch’s op-ed on recent positive depictions of fathers in television ads was picked up by the Augusta Free Press, the Suffolk News Herald, Ashburn Rising and Meridian Magazine. Paasch has also been appointed by Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe to the state’s Child Support Guidelines Review Panel. Paasch and NPO Virginia are becoming forces to be reckoned with in Virginia. Here’s his op-ed in full.
In today’s marketing environment, dad-bashing seems to be on the wane. In fact, inspiring and refreshingly positive television ads have recently managed to gain popularity while avoiding this pitfall. I applaud Dove, Nissan and Toyota for having the courage to step away from the norm and, in doing so, not only bring men into the mainstream picture of the modern American parent, but also for doing so in a way that is perhaps more innovative than anything else: championing one gender without attacking, alienating or poking fun at the other gender. Vladek Filler Wins Again April 30, 2015 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization At last, Vladek Filler is a free man. Oh, he’s been “free,” as in “no longer in jail,” for over two years. But when I say “free,” I mean free of all the consequences of the vendetta waged against him by his ex-wife and a shamefully corrupt Ellsworth, Maine prosecutor’s office that stopped at nothing to railroad an innocent man. Time Magazine: Children Fare Better with Shared Parenting April 29, 2015 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization This Time Magazine article is quite good, and not just because our own Ned Holstein is quoted so favorably (Time, 4/27/15). As the momentum toward shared parenting continues to grow, articles in widely-read news sources like Time both chart that growth and promote it. Here’s how Holstein is quoted in the article.
