Last week many hundreds of you submitted the National Parents Organization’s recommended changes to the child support rules to the federal office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE). This agency tells the individual states what their child support guidelines and enforcement programs should look like. I seriously doubt that they have ever before received such a large amount of input from the general public. This has been a terrific show of unity.
We are going to keep the pressure on! This week, the task is really simple, and will take you only 30 seconds.
Please copy the following message:
Dear Ms. Addison:
Please convey the following request to the Commissioner and to the Director, Policy Division: I request that the OCSE hold public hearings on its proposed rulemaking in each of the federal regions with adequate notice to the public. If you have any questions concerning this request, please contact Ned Holstein, Acting Executive Director, National Parents Organization at email@example.com.

Next item. Last week, you saw only the NPO recommendations, but you did not see our arguments in favor of them because they were too long to include in the space allotted for comments. We did, however, submit a full explanation of our reasons to the OCSE. Keep reading to see our full submission.
We are very well aware that many of you have child support issues that are not covered by our recommendations. It was necessary to be selective in what we submitted. First, there are many issues that are not directly under the authority of the federal OCSE, and therefore were not submitted to them. Second, there are some recommendations that we know would have had no chance to be adopted. There was no point in wasting our ammunition on such issues. These were judgment calls, and there is no absolute assurance of being right, but the calls had to be made. Finally, some issues, while valid, apply to only a very few people, or have only a very small dollar impact, so we did not submit those either, given the space limitations for comments.
Once again, thanks for your unity and activism! And please be sure to send in today’s comment (above) whether or not you commented last week.
Isn’t it obvious we should have public hearings? How many issues are there that affect half the children in America and that take thousands of dollars per year out of one pocket and put them in another pocket? No hearings? It can’t be real!
Below, you will find our full submission.
Together with you in the love of our children, and doing something about it,
Ned Holstein, MD, MS
