Spectrum News 1 in Louisville, Kentuck has an article and video on Kentucky’s first in the nation shared parenting law as well as the story of Matt Hale and his family, who worked for six years to get this momentous law passed.  From the article:” ‘Children their best interest is seeing both parents equally as long as the parents meet a list of 11 factors and those factor include such things as positive mental and physical health proximity to each other and there can be no domestic violence things like that,’ Hale said.” Read the entire article and watch the video here.

The Virginian-Pilot has published an op-ed by Christian Paasch, Co-Chair of the Virginia chapter of National Parents Organization, on the successes of a law passed in Arizona and how passing a full shared parenting law would similarly benefit Virginia. Paasch writes, Shared parenting is a flexible option that gives judges wide latitude in ordering parenting time arrangements, while still allowing judges to protect victims of abuse, when required. NPO Executive Director Petra Maxwell penned a letter to the editor appearing in the October 12, 2018 edition of the Columbus Dispatch (Ohio):

“NPO has worked tirelessly to promote true shared parenting of children when parents live apart.

“The women leaders of NPO want to make clear that this issue is not “boys vs. girls” or “moms vs. dads.” To try to cast it as a skirmish in the gender wars is to diminish its significance and ultimately hurts children, which no reasonable person would want.”

Ashland, Kentucky’s Daily Independent has an article that reveals the results of a recent poll showing that 84% of those in Kentucky agree that children would benefit from equal time with both parents after divorce.
