August 29, 2015. Richmond Times-Dispatch, Richmond, Virginia, “Virginia Should Embrace Shared Parenting,” By Christian Paasch (National Parents Organization of Virginia)

As the month of August, which was declared Child Support Enforcement Month by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, winds down, I encourage the citizens of Virginia to honor Gov. August 28, 2015. Tampa Bay Parenting, Tampa Bay, Florida, “Sharing Is Caring,” By Ned Holstein (National Parents Organization Founder and Board Chair)

August 12, 2015. Kentucky New Era, Hopkinsville, Kentucky, “Kentucky Parenting Law Outdated,” By Matt Hale (National Parents Organization of Kentucky)

Four-year-old Alejandro Gonzalez-Hayes was born in Christian County, to his Kentucky mother, Amanda Hayes, and Spanish diplomat father, Mario Gonzalez Pliego. As we know from this newspaper’s recent report, Alejandro was sent to Turkey with his father while his mother may rarely see him again.

A court order awarding sole custody to one parent, who promptly moved Alejandro far away, caused this tragic situation. Worse yet, this tragedy occurs every day all across Kentucky. Sole custody is not this judge’s mistake. It’s the law in Kentucky. Read more . . .

August 6, 2015. Blue Mass Group, “Push for shared parenting reform in Massachusetts” (Quotes National Parents Organization)

The Boston Globe reports on the recent hearings on shared parenting reform:

“The State House hearing room seemed an unlikely place for grown men to bare their souls.

“But as father after father took a seat in a committee room, urging lawmakers to support proposed legislation to revamp Massachusetts’ child-custody statute, they laid out the particulars of their divorces and personal lives in blunt detail. Read more…

July 31, 2015. Examiner.com, “Study on working mothers underscores need for shared parenting” (Interviews National Parents Organization)

We here in the WorkingDad corner are typically skeptical of politicians, but it seems like they’re on the right track for once. Nearly 20 state legislatures are proposing changes in law that would promote shared parenting and gender equality after divorce or separation, and they certainly have our support. Read more…
