The Nov. 19, 2014, column “Parents should share parenting: Courts should encourage shared parenting whenever possible” in The Lebanon Enterprise promoted shared parenting following the release of National Parents Organization’s Shared Parenting Report Card.
The column’s author, Enterprise editor Stevie Lowery, wrote that her children have grown up in a shared parenting situation following divorce, and she wrote that the report card is troubling in that it brings to light how rarely shared parenting occurs.
“Yes, children are resilient, and they have the ability to adapt well to adversity. But, all children deserve to have access to the love and care of both parents, even if they are divorced or separated. And if the parents aren’t mature enough to agree on that on their own, then the courts should strongly encourage it,” the editorial said.
